Vista Can’t Obtain IP Address?

A very small percentage of my clients are encountering errors in which their brand new Windows Vista systems can’t access the Internet because they’re not getting an IP address from their high-speed internet service.

The issue, according to this Microsoft Knowledgebase article, is that previous versions of Windows have the BROADCAST flag in DHCP discovery packets set to 0, whereas Vista does not.

The article provides a resolution to this issue in the form of a registry change that can be made.
