More walks …

Long walks are good for the soul, or at least I’ve found.

The most at peace I have ever been was during Basic Training and the long road marches with fifty pounds of equipment on my back, a heavy kevlar helmet on my head, the hot sun and hard earth below and an M16A2 in my hands.

Walking 10km in the South Carolina countryside gives you plenty of time to just think.

I need to get out and go for more long walks, even if it’s only with my mp3 player in my hands.

Annual obligatory “Pussification of America” rant …

I drove by the school where friends and I used to ride up on biked and play on the playground today. Gone were the merry-go-rounds. Gone were the swings. Gone were the various monstrous creations of grey pipes making any number of shapes for us to climb on.

Everything had been replaced with plastic things, none over the height of five feet, surrounded by a sea of wood chips a foot deep.

I want my kids to grow up learning that there are consequences for the dumb things we do. I want mothers who’s first response to their kid is “that’s what you get for hanging upside down like that, I hope it hurt.”

Stupid lawyers and overprotective parents.

I reall miss these.

Leo Laporte and TechTV part ways …

I’m sure most people have never heard of Leo Laporte, and of those that have probably don’t care, but I was saddened to see even the reduced air time of the former Screensavers and Call For Help host come to a complete end due to a bit of corporate greed.

Leo’s blog entry.

Personally, after having The Screensavers in my TiVo’s season pass list for a long time, I’m considering removing it simply because while I still like remaining host Patrick Norton, he seems so out of place with the now all twenty-something cast. I’ve never warmed to Kevin Rose, especially in light of the network’s continual push of his “dark tipper” persona, and frankly am getting a wee bit tired of the “cutesy” on-air bits between him and his girlfriend.
