San Diego, Midway and Marketer of the Year

I love to travel, so I was especially happy when several members of the @Twelpforce team were asked if we’d like to attend the Direct Marketing Association’s 2009 conference in San Diego. Best Buy had won Marketer of the Year, primarily for our social media efforts such as the Best Buy Communtity and Twelpforce.

San Diego was great, and I have photos from walking around in my free time. The highlight of the visit was definitely the USS Midway, the longest serving aircraft carrier in the Navy.

Work on the Meister House Halloween decorations continues, but the graveyard lightshow is starting to shape up nicely. I changed some of the lights around this year from last, and moved the show over to a Intel Atom system running Microsoft Windows 7.

You can see video from last year’s display here.

I created this video for Best Buy’s “Unleash Your Inner Director” contest for employees to send a short video explaining how they reach out to customers to help them with their technology issues.

Twelpforce is Best Buy’s “Twitter Helpforce”, which I’ve been a part of since launch, and have sent out over 1,900 tweets for already. It’s been an awesome experience so far, which is why I knew instantly that it would be the subject of my entry.

I Didn’t Last Very Long …

Over the weekend, I lost my beloved iPhone to an inopportune 4 foot drop onto hard concrete. The case I had the phone in protected the outside of the phone reasonably well, as there’s not an external dent, nick or scratch anywhere on phone. However, the impact shook something up, because now the LCD display isn’t working at all.

Because of the accident, I decided to see just how long I could last without my little portable computer substitute.

I lasted 3 days.

Yes, I upgraded to a shiny new 32GB iPhone 3GS. Only this time, I made sure to purchase it through Best Buy so that I could get accidental damage coverage to prevent another long, dark weekend of iPhone withdrawal.
